Generic Theo-24 Cr (Theophylline)

Description

Theo-24 (theophylline) is used to treat the signs and symptoms of asthma as well as reversible airflow restriction brought on by chronic asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are also part of COPD. 1

Theo-24 functions as a bronchodilator, relaxing the smooth muscle of the airways to open airways into the lungs and ease breathing. Additionally, it lessens airway inflammation and responsiveness to stimuli like allergens, which can cause wheezing or breathlessness. 1 Theophylline belongs to the group of medications known as methylxanthines. 2

As directed by the doctor, take this medication by mouth once or twice daily.

The capsules or pills should not be chewed or crushed. This might cause the medicine to leak completely all at once, raising the possibility of negative effects.
